Does Linux use Microsoft Office in 2019?

Thanks for the A2A.

Just think about the question for a second. Do you really think, that is a matter of Linux using it? Or could it be a matter of the vendor making it available for other operating systems?

Now, given Microsoft is an operating system developer… if you were an operating system developer, would you make your software compatible for your competition. Think about it. Just for a few second!

THE ANSWER IS NO! IT has been NO for decades and it will always be no!

You can use LibreOffice and a number more options. You can use cloud-based services like Office365 or Google stuff.

In fact, LibreOffice can read and write basic MS Office documents! The difference is, it’s FREE! Everybody can use it, not just the people who can afford it. It’s also available on all major platforms. Windows, MacOS AND Linux. It’s good enough that it is default on most Linux distributions out there.

But the answer has been NO yesterday, it is still NO today and it will also be NO tomorrow!

Linux won’t voluntarily use some bloated, proprietary applications. It has TONS of alternatives. Barely any Linux distribution these days offers less than 25,000 packages. Should be vastly enough for the average desktop user… and power users and developers and servers and home automation systems and printer and Internet modems and smartTVs and…

Do you need Microsoft office on your iPhone? No. Do you need Microsoft office on your Android phone? No. Do you REALLY need it on Windows? NO! Because even on Windows you can use LibreOffice, Google’s cloud options…

Linux is not Windows. Why are you trying to turn Linux into Windows, just because it’s the one and only thing you know?

Didn’t you have to learn to use Windows too at some point in your life? Are you using Excel for editing images? If you do, it’s a stupid idea. Otherwise, why are you trying to use MS Office for everything? Why would you need MS Office on Linux if there are other options? Why does Windows always have to be the best option?

Why does it always have to be Microsoft? Is every single application you use on your computer a Microsoft product or do you use other options too? Like antivirus software for example? A messenger? An e-mail application? YOUR BROWSER…? What are you afraid of? How can you know, if MS office is the best, if you have never tried anything else?
