How do I add second OS Ubuntu to Windows 10 boot menu with using command prompt?

Thanks for the A2A.

That’s a bad idea. Tons of people have been complaining, that this is a setup doomed to fail and that is not suprising.

Recently someone reported, that Windows hibernation has broken the Ubuntu boot manager (Grub). So, from that perspective it would make sense.

The catch is, that Windows doesn’t usually recognize other operating system, doesn’t play nice with them and Linux and tends to break stuff. Also, Linux has been dual booting Windows successfully for decades, while Windows wants to be the only one and doesn’t like other operating systems on the same device.

Meaning, the better solution is to use Ubuntu’s Grub to boot both and not use anything on Windows like hibernation, that could modify the boot loader.

To do so, use the Ubuntu live system. From there mount the installed system, chroot into it and reinstall Grub. In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’ll find according manuals online.

Ubuntu will recognize Windows and add it to the boot menu.
