Thanks for the A2A.
SuSE already had live CD versions back in the ‘90s.
Knoppix is currently in version 8.6 from August 2019. Version 5.2 has been advertised in 2007. Meaning, the distro has been around for more than a decade.
So, let me ask you this: what kind of miracle do you expect from a Linux distribution, that has been around for more than a decade? If there hasn’t been a miracle in more than a decade? What’s so great about Knoppix?
It’s really funny. This reminds me about something. A while ago someone who had been using Linux for a year told me to get my facts straight and get up to speed, because since now Linux Mint has finally come up, it is going to change everything. Because Linux Mint is the best and most used Linux. It is going to draw all the Windows users to Linux. And since Python is now available and so easy to use on Linux, far easier than it is on Windows, this is going to change the gaming industry completely and it’s going to draw all the gamers to Linux too.
Unfortunately, this person completely missed a few things. For example, that Python has been around for 28 years. That Python is barely being used in serious game development, since it is a slow scripting language, not a compiled language. That Mint has been around for 13 years. And that I’m looking back at more than 20 years experience with Linux, which is a little bit more than his one year.
What I’m getting at with this: before you ask questions like these, you might want to research, how long the according distro has been around. Also go visit their website while you do. What does the website tell you? Do you see a mission statement that is out of the ordinary or gives you the impression, that they are going to bring up ANYTHING groundbreaking in the foreseeable future? Because if you can find something, you are looking at a completely different website than I am.
Maybe it’s just me. But Knoppix has been updated quite recently and I don’t see ANYTHING that would give me the impression, that Knoppix is going to affect the future of Linux any day soon in any relevant way.
Side note: experienced users don’t call it Linux OS. Knoppix is a Linux distribution and it’s based on the Linux kernel. LINUX is just a kernel. Not an operating system.
